The Mental
Health Authority of St. Mary’s, Inc. was established in 1995 as a private,
non-profit Core Service Agency responsible for managing the Public Mental
Health System in St. Mary’s County. Our mission is to provide leardership,
responsiveness, support, advocacy and understanding for the individuals
and families of St. Mary's County, as well as the community-at-large, who
are experiencing or are affected by behavioral health care problems and
concerns.

Monitors mental
health services including a fee-for-service system that involves local
providers who offer crisis, residential, rehabilitative, outpatient, inpatient,
employment, and case-management interventions to approximately 2,000 individuals.
Designs multi-disciplinary
plans for children and adolescents, the homeless, and those who are involved
with the criminal justice system.
Conducts public-education
campaigns designed to get in touch with hard-to-reach populations, such
as the elderly and the homeless.
Develops new resources,
programs, and forums for struggling families.
Works closely
with the providers of substance abuse education and developmental disability
services in order to support those with co-occurring disorders.
Links mental health
providers with in-school and after-school programs, community education
in the senior communities, and school staff training opportunities.
